A Trip to the Farmer's Market

One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is go to the local Farmer's Market.  We are blessed to live less than 10 minutes from a large outdoor market.  Each May I look forward to the week that the market opens.  I try to go as often as possible until it closes down in November.

This year I haven't made it down as often as I'd like, but when I do get to the market, I am always thrilled with my products.  Why don't you take a little tour with me?

Summer and I typically head to the market right after breakfast.  It's best to arrive early for the best selection of produce.  First we walk up and down, glancing at each booth to check out what's available and the prices.

It was a gorgeous morning for the market!

These colorful plums caught my eye immediately.  I purchased some of the red ones on the far left.  They're called Methley Plums and they're small and sweet.

The baked goods always look delicious.

Kohlrabi is new to me.  I haven't taken a chance and purchased any because I don't know what to do with it!  Any great suggestions for me?

Our market also has a few booths that feature homemade items like these metal wine bottle trees.

This colorful assortment of peppers caught my eye immediately.  Can you image the beautiful dishes you could create with these?

I love to pick up a few ears of corn.  They're great grilled!

I discovered my new favorite flowers at the dahlia farm stand.  I can't resist picking up a new bouquet each week!

Aren't these flowers stunning?

Gorgeous sunflowers.

I didn't take a picture of the food court, which hosts two of my favorite vendors: the tamale guy and the homemade pretzel stand. You'll just have to trust me that they are delicious!

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our Farmer's Market.  Do you have a market nearby?

  4. Beautiful pictures! I already miss summer time. 2015 will be a year filled with more homegrown fruits and vegetables than ever before! I would love to be able to grow enough to bring extras to our local farmer's market too. I can't wait!
